Dr. Mikao Usui discovered Reiki in the early 1900's, there are various versions of this history but each is highly fascinating! Usui Reiki named directly after Dr. Mikao is the first of the four rays of Reiki, this ray represents the element of earth and our physical bodies.
Anyone can give & receive Reiki, there is no religious affiliation involved.
Reiki differs from other healing modalities in that it's not simply learned, there is an attunement process involved. An attunement does not give you anything that you do not already have from birth however it increases the vibration and frequency of energy much like turning up the dial on the dimmer switch of a light.
In Usui Reiki there are three attunements, the first allows the person to become more in tune with the Reiki energies so they may be a channel of universal life force to do Reiki self care and care of others in person.
The second attunement is very special in that it allows the practitioner to turn up the dial higher and now transcend time and space with Reiki, meaning practicing via a distance is now possible as well as healing parts of someone's life that occurred in the past or sending Reiki to a future event to ensure smoothness. Also this attunement brings in Reiki keys, or symbols. The symbols help to focus the energies to help heal on a specific level, like mental, and emotional. Symbols are extremely fascinating to work with as they carry their own vibrations.
The third attunement allows the Reiki practitioner to know all of the symbols for focusing the energies and now attune others to Reiki. Often this is called the Reiki Master attunement.
Developed by Eileen Dey, M.A.,LMHC, Insight Reiki is a gentle bodywork method that encourages an individual to get in touch with and release the feelings surrounding trauma, confusion, and pain that are held within their body.
An Insight Reiki session is different in that it promotes verbal, visual, and spiritual exploration during the session. The practitioner may ask gentle probing and descriptive questions in order to aid the client gain clarity, solutions, acceptance, forgiveness, and peace. Insight Reiki can be really rewarding when approached in a secure space with no expectations and open minds.
Sometimes we are feeling a certain way and don't really understand why or simply can't see the root of things going on within us. I have had many amazing sessions with Insight Reiki, I never know where the Insight Reiki journey will lead and I adore that!
Karuna Reiki is the second ray of Reiki, it represents the element of water and our emotions. Karuna is a Sanskrit word and is used in Hinduism, Buddhism and Zen. It is translated to mean any action that is taken to diminish the suffering of others and could be translated as 'compassionate action'.
The Karuna Reiki system was developed by William Lee Rand and other healers at The International Center for Reiki Training.
Anyone can receive Karuna Reiki, however to have a Karuna 1 attunement/class a practitioner needs to have already attained the level Usui Reiki Master.
While Karuna Reiki is not a religion, many have found that they have received healing and guidance from spiritual beings when using Karuna Reiki. Karuna Reiki strengthens our awareness and connection to the purest spiritual guidance, such as that coming from Jesus, Mother Mary, Kuan-Yin, St. Germaine, and other Ascended Masters, angels and Archangels.
Karuna Reiki also has three attunements, the first gives an introduction to this new vibration and flow of energy as well as four more Reiki keys.
The second attunement delves deeper still with more symbols and healing the shadow self. The shadow self is the part which each of us has that co-creates our experiences, often when we experience something unpleasant we want to blame others, however we were part of creating this experience as well.
In working with Reiki energies on all levels we become aware that great shifts can be made with the use of sound. Through vocally exploring various sounds we bring in their vibration to help us work through blocks on multiple levels, a phenomenal experience to explore.
Many of the sounds used are intuitive, mantras, keys, and tones. It is also beneficial to work with chimes and tuning forks, each which are toned to a specific frequency. Many people experience a more tangible movement and shift within themselves when these modalities are brought into a session. Be sure to communicate your comfort and interest of what you would like to experience in your Reiki sessions, this is your time to heal and grow for your highest good.
Throughout sessions I often enjoy bringing in essential oils and crystals as well as various other modalities. There are so many practices and things in our world to promote health and healing that I feel I would be amiss not to explore.
